Samantha Cooper – Company Member

Specializing in PR, Acting, Directing, Playwright

We live in the world. We thrive through art.

Samantha Cooper is a graduate from Western Washington University (2010) with a dual degree in Theatre Arts (acting and playwriting) and English (literature) who has spent the last three years in Seattle working on her skills an actor, playwright, theatre cross-trainer, and fledgling director. Although her love of theatre spans all the disciplines, Samantha discovered her passion of collaboratively created/generative theatre while in college. Since that discovery, she’s happily been involved in roughly seven generative pieces that have greatly affected the way she looks at the modern theatrical model. She believes that devising has the greatest potential to flip the aforementioned model on its head, effect societal change, and transform the way theatre is written, directed, performed, and watched. While devising is a great passion of hers, her overall love of all disciplines never keeps her far away from all the creative parts of theatre.

In her other “day-job” life, Samantha worked as a Box Office Associate for Intiman (2010) and has spent the last three years as the Development Associate at Book-It Repertory Theatre. She is also the Senior Editor of the ten-minute play literary journal, NorthNorthwest and a board member of Northwest Playwrights Alliance (NPA). Other passions include searching for the perfect happy hour, park hopping, running, margaritas, and seeing as much theatre as her schedule will allow.

In the Fall of 2013, Samantha will begin graduate studies at Columbia University in New York City. She’s be working towards an MFA in Playwriting studying under people such as Anne Bogart and Charles Mee. Though this move takes her across the country, her heart will always partly remain in Washington State and with the amazing people of Blood Ensemble.
